Hello!

This week I was sent some information about studying abroad. I know that a lot of the students I speak to like the idea of studying for at least part of their degree abroad, so I thought it might be interesting to investigate.

Unfortunately, post BREXIT, UK students won’t be able to pay the host country’s home fees when they study in Europe, but in some countries that doesn’t matter as the international students’ fees can be cheaper than the £9,250 per year charged by UK universities at the moment.

For example, a recent study by HSBC found that Germany was the most cost effective country in which to study with fees and the cost of living both being lower. The difference isn’t tiny – they estimated an annual cost of £4,425.08 in Germany compared to £25,138.82 in the UK.

UCAS suggests that studying abroad can help a student stand out from the crowd in job and internship applications and also show that they have an understanding of the wider world and, possibly, language skills. Obviously there are many things to consider before studying abroad and it won’t be right for everyone – but I’ve linked the UCAS guide below. Just for fun there’s a link to the ten most beautiful universities in the world as well. (My personal favourite’s the University of Otago in New Zealand, details here if you’re interested)

Links this week are: UK tuition fees, the HSBC study, UCAS’s guide to what you need to know about Studying Abroad, and that list of the most beautiful universities in the world. Hope they’re useful.

As always, don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or enquiries.

Kim Lacey, UCAS and Careers.
