Freddie Lamb, a Derby Grammar alumnus, returned to school last Friday with his impressive IFCPF European Championship Cap.
Freddie’s talents were first spotted in 2016 at the young age of 16, when he joined the Under 21 squad. He was then selected for the IFCPF European Championship Under 19 squad in Genoa in 2017 while still a Year 12 pupil at Derby Grammar School. He spent a week in Genoa where he not only played, but beat Denmark 3-0 in the final match, and was awarded the prestigious tournament’s winners’ medal.
Unfortunately – like all of us – the COVID-19 pandemic put Freddie’s life on hold but as soon as he could, he carried on training with the Senior Squad.
In July 2022, Freddie had the opportunity to play for the England Under 23 Senior Squad, drawing 4-4 with Scotland and scoring in the last minute of the game to equalise.
Freddie attended the Selection Day at St George’s Park to receive his IFCPF European Championship Cap. “I waited for 5 years but it definitely worth it”. This impressive piece of head wear is the same cap that Harry Kane is awarded. Freddie celebrated with a family meal but dad celebrated by buying everyone drinks!”
A total of 25 players attended the special Selection Day, and the 10 talented players to be selected are set to train at St George’s Park in the Senior Squad.
Freddie left Derby Grammar School in 2019 and is now undertaking a PGCE in Primary Education. He is set to quality in 2023.
