On Wednesday 29 June 2022, we welcomed our Year 11 boys back to school to celebrate the end of their GCSE exams. After months of hard work, revision, mock exams, clinics and a busy exam season – it was time for some fun!

The afternoon started with ‘Bubble Mayhem’ – a series of football matches and games whilst wearing a zorbing suit. There was the usual competitive sportsmanship but because the zorbing suits hindered spatial awareness, the football match just turned into our Year 11 pupils bouncing around, falling over and laughing lots! Thankfully, there were no injuries.

Zorbing worked up a healthy appetite and thanks to Chef Julie, the boys were refuelled with a tasty BBQ and a range of salad, ready to take on jenga, table tennis – pupils vs. staff, and inter-form football.

Parents joined us in the afternoon and together, we began to look forward to the new beginnings of Sixth Form. Mrs Charnock, Mrs Sly and Miss Stockton recently announced the re-launch of our amazing, one-in-a-lifetime trip to Tanzania. This trip takes place in the summer of Year 12 and offers pupils the opportunity to spend just over three weeks in Africa. During this time, pupils will volunteer in schools to help teach children, and get involved in some local project work designed to improve their learning environment and facilities. Similar project work is also carried out at the Hasani Orphanage.

At the end of their trip, pupils have the option to either climb Mount Kilimanjaro or go on an exciting safari.

Miss Stockton and the Derby Grammar School staff wish all of our Year 11 boys a very restful summer, and we look forward to seeing you on Results Day which for GCSE’s, is Thursday 25th August 2022.
